Today we have a Pulitzer winning ! ohhhh Yeah ! “The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power” ⛽️ by Daniel Yergin is a deep dive in the oil history.
.
Through the book, you will see the rise and fall of nations, meet rulers of empire Rockefeller, Saddam Hussein,GW Bush, etc… I don’t think there is any books which gives you a better key to understand the modern world 🌎 and his conflicts. ⚔️
.
I really like the fact that M. Yergin doesn’t have an angle, he is not here to tell you that oil is bad, people are bad, capitalisms kills. He is here to take your hand and walk you through the History and game of power behind the oil.
.
This book is really long more than 800 🗻pages. It took me 1 year to read it even tho the style is quite fluid and easy to follow. It’s more a journalism 👨🏻‍💻style, than historian 👨🏼‍🏫one. The size of the book is why, I didn’t give the best grade to the book. Some parts were less interesting and it was difficult for me to go trough.
.
A must read for the ones interesting in history and want to know how we end up here 🤷🏿‍♂️ BUT not mandatory to work in the field. ( little secret : Lot of friend working in big oil companies have the book UNTOUCHED on their bookcase and are doing just fine ! 🙊🙊🙊) .
.
My grade 5/6 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
